Following a request from the Lord Lieutenant’s office, Aylesbury Vale District Council (AVDC) is pleased to offer free parking in its Walton Street car park on Sunday 11 November as a ‘Thank you’ to the WW1 generation.
Visitors coming to Aylesbury for the Remembrance Day Service, or simply for work or leisure, will be able to take advantage of the 525-space car park, which is the largest AVDC car park in Aylesbury.
Located just minutes from the heart of the town centre, the car park offers a pleasant and scenic stroll to the shops and restaurants, with the walkway passing by the canal and the award-winning Waterside Theatre.
The Remembrance Day Service events in Aylesbury start at 6am with a lone piper sounding out the tune of The Battle’s O’er at the War Memorial in Market Square. Following this, a Remembrance Day Service and Parade will commence at 11am and a special service will take place at St Mary’s Church at 5.30pm. At the end of the day, a bugler will sound out The Last Post at 6.55pm in Market Square, and immediately after this a Beacon of Light will be lit at 7pm as the bells ring out for peace at St Mary’s Church at 7.05pm.
Councillor Julie Ward, Cabinet Member for Civic Amenities, said:
“I’m very pleased we’re able to offer free parking at Walton Street car park for Remembrance Day. I’m hoping this will encourage as many residents and visitors to come to the town to pay their respects to the WW1 generation, of whom we all owe an enormous debt.”
