Aylesbury Garden Town is very pleased to be a sponsor of WhizzFizzFest this year and to mark the occasion, extra cycle parking will be provided to encourage more visitors to come to the festival on two wheels. One of the key focuses of becoming a Garden Town, is to reduce the carbon footprint by making it easier for people to choose more sustainable modes of travel. With lots of people expected in the town for the family friendly literary and arts festival on Saturday 22nd June, which is headlined by Dame Darcey Bussell, it’s the ideal time to encourage anyone who can, to either cycle, or come on foot and enjoy a healthy and active start to a great day.
As well as the public bicycle racks that are located across the town, extra cycle parking will be provided outside the University Campus Aylesbury Vale building, on Walton Street. There will be stewards at UCAV to show people where to leave their bikes and guide them to the main festival area. There are plenty of other places to leave bikes too and these can be found on the town map on the WhizzFizzFest website. Anyone who is coming by bike should ensure that it is safely and securely locked while parked.
Councillor Bill Chapple, OBE, Chair of the Aylesbury Garden Town Delivery Board said, ‘We’re delighted to be part of the hugely popular WhizzFizzFest, celebrating Aylesbury’s literary heritage. The festival has a fantastic turn-out from local people and providing extra places for cycle parking, so they can choose not to come by car, will make getting to the festival cheaper and more environmentally friendly, which is great now that Aylesbury’s a Garden Town.’
Aylesbury Garden Town will be playing a big part in this year’s festival, with its unique Bicycle Bus appearing in the parade and then heading to The Exchange, where there’ll be lots going on for all the family. There’s also a ‘Win a Bike’ competition running in the lead-up to the festival, for children 16 and under. To enter they need to draw a picture of how they think they will travel to school in the year 2050. The lucky winner will receive a fantastic new bike from local company, Otec Bikes, with three runners up receiving cycle vouchers. The winning designs will also decorate the Bicycle Bus in the WhizzFizzFest Parade.
