Carolina Lelis is a singer, songwriter and actress from Brazil. She grew up in São Paulo in a family of musicians and spent most of her early life travelling around the country with her parents’ gospel band. Later on she moved to New York where she discovered a passion for performing and Jazz. She performed around the jazz circuit and also at the iconic ‘The Plaza’.
After 4 years in the ‘Big Apple’ Lelis went back to Brazil to reconnect with her roots and family. She began writing and was encouraged by her now husband and bass player Julio de Castro to record her music. Her first solo work is a concert show titled ‘Live’ featuring some of the best Jazz musicians from the São Paulo scene. Carolina believes going back to her home country was paramount to finding her true voice. She’s influenced by her family’s musicianship as well as greats like Sarah Vaughan, Erykah Badu and Djavan to name a few.
In 2019 she moved to London together with her partner and has been singing in various venues including Peggy’s Skylight, The Verdict Jazz Club and many more across the UK and fronting Brazilian Music acts like the resident band at the London 606 Club.
